Why can’t I get pregnant after having children in the past?

It is important to mention that, one out of 10 women (10%) suffers from secondary pregnancy: infertility after having a child. In fact, this infertility is more frequent than the primary infertility.

The World Health Organization (WHO) say that, primary infertility affects 2% couples while, secondary infertility can go up higher than 10%.

Some of the reasons can be the change of lifestyle after having children. These changes can occur either in one member of the couple or in both.

Nevertheless, specialists point out the the biggest problem is age, as obviously, the second (or third, fourth) child will be planned years after the first child. During this years, problems such as endometriosis, varicocele and others can appear.

As we always recommend for all the infertility cases, you should visit your specialist after a year of trying to get pregnant without success. Thus, for secondary infertility you should consider that.

This previous point is very important as, lot of couples that are having problems to get pregnant with a second (third, fourth) child will take longer to visit a specialist, as they already had a child, they think they will get naturally pregnant again.
